We are looking for a self-starter with operations experience to join our group of principal underwriters that operates out of All Risk Underwriting. You will lead the subject areas of Pulp and Paper and Construction for portfolio analysis, capacity and linesetting, pricing strategies, and development of underwriting requirements that support the company’s profit and growth objectives.

To do this well you will be constantly learning and asking questions, collaborating with your team, principal engineers, members of other corporate staff departments, as well as individuals from operations to research and develop underwriting requirements and related procedures.

You will provide leadership and guidance to operations underwriters, ensuring necessary support is available and impacts are understood prior to implementation. And from there, support thoughtful underwriting exceptions, ensuring a consistent application of risk selection and underwriting judgment within your assigned portfolio.

In addition, you will travel for 2 or 3 operations underwriting audits per year; provide underwriting training to others, assist in the development of new coverages and products in response to changing customer needs; and contribute your ideas for the continuous improvement of the underwriting process and systems development.

This opening can be based in any of our US office locations and/or London.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • High Hazard underwriting authority in one or more industries.
  • 10+ years’ experience in engineering and/or underwriting for large accounts including some high hazard occupancies.
  • In-depth knowledge of both the physical characteristics of facilities engaged in the businesses represented by assigned occupancies as well as the financial and profit motivations that will likely impact risk.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, excel skills and attention to detail is required.
  • A broad working knowledge of our business, including risk identification and assessment, property insurance coverage, forms, underwriting techniques, company standards and procedures, financial statements, and business computer applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to develop and conduct formal and informal training develop clear and concise underwriting requirements and effectively communicate the results of portfolio analyses undertaken

Job Summary:
This role supports HR Business Partners (HRBPs) and business leaders globally in operational and strategic workforce planning. The Specialist translates business strategies into actionable workforce insights, analyzing demand, supply, location, and skills, and supports planning discussions leading to effective decisions.

This role ensures workforce plans are viable by aligning headcount needs with budget, capacity, and technology, collaborating closely with HR, Finance, and business stakeholders. Reporting to the Staff VP, HR Data and Innovation, this position operates under the HR Operations Manager – People Analytics. It involves close collaboration with HRBPs, HR Analytics, Finance, and other business stakeholders.

Schedule & Location:

This is a full time office based position in Johnston, RI. Some flexibility for remote work 1-2 days per week based on business needs. Occasional domestic travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with HRBPs and business stakeholders to perform workforce demand and supply analysis using established methods, identifying gaps and surpluses by role, skill, location, and specialty.
  • Serve as the central coordination point within the HR team to align workforce plans with office space, labor budget, and technology enablement, partnering with Finance, Real Estate/Facilities, and IT.
  • Perform workforce location planning and assess operational impacts of workforce changes, including growth, reductions, capacity, and location shifts.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of a comprehensive workforce planning roadmap and workforce planning processes.
  • Execute operational and strategic workforce planning, including enterprise planning cycles and delivery of the workforce planning roadmap aligned to business strategy.
  • Analyze long‑term workforce risks and opportunities, including skills gaps, critical roles, and succession exposure, and translate findings into workforce implications and actions.
  • Partner with HRBPs, Finance, and stakeholders to drive gap‑closing actions, including hiring, redeployment, reskilling, role redesign, and timing adjustments.
  • Produce workforce planning outputs, including summaries, dashboards, scenarios, and planning materials.
  • Apply enterprise workforce planning standards and governance and participate in recurring planning cycles and updates.

Qualifications:

Required Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in workforce planning, HR analytics, or related roles.

Highly Preferred Work Experience:

  • Experience with demand and supply analysis and global workforce environments preferred.
  • Experience with Workday and workforce planning software preferred.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Economics, Finance, Analytics, or related field required (a combination of education, experience and skills will be considered in lieu of a degree).

Highly Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree or coursework in workforce planning, analytics, or business strategy is a plus.
  • Workforce planning certification is a plus.

  • Form, develop and maintain relationships with SMEs, internal stakeholders, and clients.

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with promising ventures, leveraging tools such as Pitchbook, SPEEDA Edge and leverage data driven, and AI-based analytics to track market trends and funnel new opportunities.

  • Coordinate with internal teams (Underwriting, Legal, Finance, Operations, Engineering, Research) and external partners to balance timelines, secure approvals, and expedite deal processes-often leading without direct authority.

  • Support a range of venture models (Venture Capital, Venture Client, Product Incubator), shaping how FM invests in, partners with, or incubates new solutions.

  • Prepare clear, data-driven presentations and reports for investment committees, leadership, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparent governance throughout the investment lifecycle. Maintain a clear and aligned product, technology, and business roadmap.

  • Use frameworks (e.g., Business Model Canvas) to translate market and user research into clear business needs and value.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree is a plus). Minimum two years of experience in VC, PE, CVC, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Corporate Development or working with venture funded start-ups with exposure across pre-Seed to Late-Stage deals.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the feasibility of engineering, AI/ML, climate tech, or other deep-tech solutions-either through direct expertise or a proven track record of quickly ramping up in new domains.

  • Proficiency in data processing, analytics, and research tools (e.g., Pitchbook); familiarity with AI-driven insights for venture sourcing, portfolio management and market analysis.

  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills, ability to manage timelines and approvals from multiple internal teams (Legal, Operations, Finance, Tech), and adept at delivering actionable insights and recommendations to leadership, external partners, and clients.

  • Experience in financial analysis, including cost/benefit analysis, market size estimation and start-up valuation.

  • Comfortable with balancing commercial, technical, and future growth considerations during due diligence, integrating both short- and long-term business objectives.

  • Willingness to navigate varying levels of technical depth, shifting market conditions, and evolving corporate strategy in a dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated strong business acumen with property insurance and risk management, preferred but not mandatory.

This role is currently based in Providence, RI and will be moving to our new facility in Norwood, MA in May 2026.
