Description

The Defense Sector at Leidos is currently seeking a Software Engineer with 4+ years of professional experience to join a collaborative, product-focused engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and delivery of software products written primarily in Java, Rust and JavaScript, while playing a key role in guiding Agile scrum teams and driving technical solutions from concept through delivery.

You will work closely with product management, UX, and other engineering leaders to deliver high-quality, user-focused software through continuous delivery, with a strong emphasis on automated testing, feedback, and iterative improvement.

This position does allow the ability to telework, but the chosen candidate must be within a reasonable driving distance to either Arlington, VA or Alexandria, VA. In addition, the chosen candidate must be able to be on site when asked.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, development, and maintenance of software solutions using Java, Rust, JavaScript, and React
  • Drive end-to-end technical solutions, including architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Partner with product owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, maintainable designs
  • Build and enhance user-facing features using React, as well as backend services and APIs
  • Champion automated testing, code quality, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizen with at least an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a SCI
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4+ years of professional software development experience or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong experience with Java, Rust, JavaScript, and React, or deep expertise in several with the ability to lead across the full stack
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and leading or guiding scrum teams
  • Experience driving technical solutions and making architecture or design decisions
  • Proficiency with Jira or similar Agile project management tools
  • Strong background in automated testing (unit, integration, and/or end-to-end)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines

Job Overview

This role addresses technical challenges by translating business and functional requirements into test deliverables and systems. It involves developing, implementing, and sustaining automated test processes and controls throughout software development and sustainment lifecycles. The role includes leading and consulting on test automation strategy, design, implementation, and execution. Success is measured by the quality, maintainability, and performance of automated test code and frameworks. The work impacts organizational quality standards and supports continuous delivery through collaboration and practice leadership.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Design and maintain automation systems and tools to improve testing efficiency and coverage
  • Provide practice leadership by training peers, contributing to quality standards, and managing defect processes
  • Ensure requirements and user stories are testable and provide input to test activities and estimates
  • Coordinate with development and operations teams to uphold testing practices and quality thresholds
