The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join our team on-site at Eglin AFB, FL, in support of the Joint Staff J6 Joint Assessment Division (JAD). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to system-of-systems interoperability assessments and advance Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) data-centricity initiatives. As a JAD Software Engineer, you will work alongside other experienced software engineers, data scientists, and analysts, applying your skills to solve real-world challenges in a dynamic and impactful environment. You will contribute to delivering actionable insights to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, directly enhancing Joint Force capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support system engineering life cycle for software and hardware data collection components, including designing, developing, maintaining, testing, and deploying software solutions.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and testable code following established coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Participate in an agile development environment with sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizen with at least an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts and data structures.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as C#, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Your Next Career Challenge

We’re seeking a Chief Architect to lead the engineering and design strategy for containerizing software components within the Missile Warning system. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, you will guide a multidisciplinary systems engineering team—spanning systems, software, and test engineering—responsible for the SysML and UML models that enable migration of legacy code into a modern, containerized environment.

This is a high‑impact technical leadership role where you will define the architectural vision, drive modernization strategy, and mentor teams through a complex, multi‑phase transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of system engineers, software engineers, test engineers, and supporting roles
  • Ensure successful contract execution and on‑schedule delivery
  • Validate test procedures and plans to ensure alignment with customer requirements
  • Drive the conversion of a non‑containerized environment into a fully containerized architecture (primary focus)
  • Interpret and guide SysML and UML modeling to support software enhancement delivery
