Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing software test procedures to verify requirements/features
  • Creating and configuring complex test scenarios
  • Developing software test documentation
  • Collaborating with Stakeholders and Government customers for requirement verification
  • Working within an Agile team environment, to include Program Increment Planning, Iteration Planning, Feature and Story development, Sprint Planning, and Iteration Retrospectives.
  • Participating in demos for the team and program Sprint reviews.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8-12 years of demonstrated performance in the design, development, and testing of real-time software applications and simulations.
  • Experience with GitLab/Git
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, such as the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and application of the Agile methodologies within a technical/engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create and deliver presentations
  • Must be a US citizen possess and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area to provide full time onsite support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with test automation or analysis automation preferred
  • Agile Scrum Experience
  • Experience with Java and user interfaces
  • Experience with Jira - issue tracking and agile project management, or similar tool
  • Familiarity with MDA Sensors and/or missile defense systems

As the QA Automation Lead, you will drive the strategy, design, and execution of automated testing across our primary storage engineering portfolio. You will lead a high-performing automation team, partner closely with development, product management, DevOps, and solution engineering, and ensure that automation frameworks, test coverage, and regression pipelines consistently meet the needs of modern, distributed storage systems.

This role blends hands-on technical leadership with people leadership. You will define the automation roadmap, architect next-generation test frameworks, and elevate overall product quality and release velocity.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Own and evolve the QA automation strategy for multiple product lines, aligned with organizational quality and release goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of automation engineers; establish best practices, coding standards, and high-quality test development processes.
  • Advocate for automation-first quality culture across engineering teams, ensuring automation is integrated early in design and development.

Automation Framework & Tools:

  • Architect, extend, and maintain robust automation frameworks - primarily Python-based and containerized on Linux environments.
  • Ensure frameworks support unit, integration, system, performance, and stability testing across diverse storage and infrastructure components.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and frameworks; introduce innovative approaches to improve test reliability, coverage, and execution speed.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work:

  • Work closely with Software Engineering, Product, DevOps, Platform OS teams, and QE Regression teams to ensure seamless integration of automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to define automation requirements, plan test coverage, and support release readiness.
  • Contribute to usability, architecture, and system design discussions to ensure testability is built into the product.

Execution & Quality Ownership:

  • Oversee automated test planning, development, execution, and triage for functional, performance, compatibility, and regression suites.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts for automation failures; ensure solid tracking and follow-through with development teams.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of products under test to design optimal automated scenarios and tools.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in QA automation, software development, or test engineering, with significant hands-on automation work.
  • Strong scripting/programming background (Python required; familiarity with C, Shell, or similar languages a plus).
  • Proficiency testing complex distributed systems, storage technologies (NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel), or infrastructure products.
  • Experience developing automation frameworks, preferably Linux-based and containerized.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git/GitLab, virtualization/hypervisors, and cloud/VM environments.
  • Willing and able to come into our Centennial, CO office during core business hours (10am - 4pm local) Tuesday - Thursday.

Preferred:

  • Experience with performance/IO tools (e.g., FIO, ElBencho, SPEC, IO500).
  • Familiarity with Agile/iterative development methodologies.
  • Exposure to backup applications (Veeam, NetBackup, Cohesity), cluster orchestration, or scale-out systems.
