Leidos is seeking a Principal Solutions Architect to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector, supporting the development of the Leidos Common Automation Platform (L-CAP) and Common Baseline. L-CAP is a mission-critical, future-ready automation solution built on a hybrid cloud data mesh architecture. As a member of a large-scale, Scaled Agile software development organization, you will play a central role in shaping next-generation air traffic automation capabilities by bridging mission needs, systems engineering rigor, and Agile software delivery.
In this role, you will serve as the Solution Architect and will use your deep expertise in service-based architectures (SOA/microservices) to support mission-critical programs. This role will lead the design of scalable, secure, and resilient architectures that align with federal standards, cloud-first strategies, and zero trust principles, while enabling rapid delivery and modernization. This position is intended for experienced practitioners who can balance innovation with discipline in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
This position is located in Gaithersburg, MD. This is an opportunity to contribute to projects that impact millions of air travelers.

About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Cloud Software Engineer to join our Data Intelligence team. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on cloud-native development, scalable web applications, and modern microservices architectures. You will architect, develop, and optimize Azure-based applications while ensuring security, performance, and maintainability to support our critical business goals.
You will also play a pivotal role in mentoring junior engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to Azure cloud strategy and DevOps practices.
What You’ll Do
Architect, develop, and maintain robust web applications using C#, .NET Core, and Blazor in an Azure cloud environment.
Design and implement scalable APIs and microservices using TypeScript, Node.js, and Azure Functions.
Lead technical discussions and contribute to Azure architecture, DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
Optimize application performance, ensure high availability, and implement best practices for security and maintainability.
Develop containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS) for cloud deployment.
Collaborate with UI/UX teams to implement intuitive interfaces and integrate with front-end frameworks such as Blazor, Angular, or React.
Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge across the team.
Stay current on Azure services, cloud trends, and modern development practices to drive continuous improvement.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
7+ years of professional software development with a strong focus on C#, .NET Core, and Blazor.
Deep experience with Azure cloud services, including App Services, Functions, SQL & document databases.
Proficient in microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes / AKS).
Strong CI/CD and DevOps experience with Azure DevOps, ARM/Bicep/Terraform.
Proficiency in TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks (Blazor, React, Angular).
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Proven problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Power BI embedded integration or Databricks experience.
10+ years of experience in cloud-based solutions development.
Financial services, health tech, or enterprise SaaS experience.
Experience with Azure security best practices (IAM, Key Vault, Managed Identities).
