The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Engineer-Hardware Emulation (Associate, Experienced or Senior) (Virtual) to support our Emulation team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Fabric organization.

The Boeing Emulation Team is currently seeking an Associate Hardware Emulation Engineer. This team is responsible for developing software models that emulate the behavior and functionality of hardware components and systems, providing an all-software test and integration environment for various Boeing projects across Commercial Airplanes, Defense and Space platforms, training devices, and autonomous platforms.

In this role, you will leverage your experience and technical skills to lead the architecture and design of emulation solutions that meet the rigorous demands of our diverse projects. A successful candidate will collaborate with the Software Enterprise to embrace software best practices, standards, and initiatives, positioning the flight simulation team for efficient, effective, and high-quality execution. You will work closely with the Fabric Boeing team, contributing to innovative solutions that enhance our emulation capabilities and streamline the integration of software and hardware.

Additionally, you will tackle reverse engineering challenges to discover solutions for hosting software in emulated environments. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring that our emulation tools not only meet current project requirements but also adapt to future technological advancements. Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM and QEMU will be essential, as will familiarity with software development practices in GitLab. Understanding ARM, PowerPC, or x86 microprocessor architectures, along with common avionics data buses and interfaces, will further enhance your ability to deliver effective emulation solutions. Familiarity with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and hardware description languages (HDL) will also be beneficial in this role.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Experienced and Senior Software Engineers.

This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and will not require the selected candidate to relocate.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports the design, development, test, and integration of software models to emulate the behavior and functionality of hardware components or systems to provide an all-software test and integration environment
  • Partners with hardware engineers by contributing to the identification and review of requirements and specifications for the hardware being emulated
  • Supports the development, automation, test, integration, and administration of emulation strategies and technologies.
  • Supports the development of verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results for emulation technologies
  • Supports collecting and analyzing in-use product data to design new or enhance existing products
  • Contributes to the identification, debugging, and resolution of issues to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products.
  • Supports advising on software domains related to emulation technologies
  • Supports creating and updating policies, practices and processes for emulation and virtualized resource management
  • Supports implementing current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to hardware emulation
  • Supports hardware emulation project management activities

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Secret clearance, final post-start
  • 2+ years of experience in testing or programming software written in C or C++
  • 2+ years of experience in real-time, near real-time, or embedded systems
  • 2+ years of experience with release tools (Azure DevOps, Artifactory, Gitlab, Maven), configuration management, monitoring, virtualization and containerization
  • 2+ years of experience do you have with mission/safety-critical software development

Description

The Homeland Security Airports, Borders and Security Division at Leidos currently has an opening for a Systems Administrator. This position will be responsible for technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding. This position develops technical solutions – evaluating cost, risk, and supportability – that require collaboration with internal experts and deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product/solution. It requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of the technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.

The technology environment is a multi-tiered, Java, web-based environment using JBoss Application Server and Portal technologies integrated with QuestionMark, Active Directory, MS SQL Server, IBI WebFOCUS, ILOG, and Oracle 19c database. The server environment includes Dell and other hardware, The environment is highly virtualized running VMware ESX supporting virtual servers running RedHat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server operating systems. The networking infrastructure includes Palo Alto & Cisco equipment (e.g., firewalls, Catalyst switches, MDS fiber switches etc.). External storage solutions equipment is from Dell.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include performing systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance. IMPACT: Works independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables.  Responsible for entire projects or processes within a technical area.

  • The Systems Administrator will provide support for the management, operations, and maintenance of the SASS server, network, and database environments.

  • Provides continuous assurance of the successful day-to-day operation and viability of the SASS server and network environment according to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Maintains RHEL, ESXi, and Windows operating systems, creates templated server images, creates snapshots/clones, manages storage, monitors logs, and creates/edits automation scripts.

  • Participates in disaster recovery failover testing as well as system/database backup maintenance and testing.

  • Monitors and coordinates synchronization between production and failover SASS environments (may require occasional travel).

  • Prepares and documents procedures for day-to-day operations and ensures that they are carried out.

  • Manages maintenance of the infrastructure, including application of critical and recommended patches and upgrades for system switches, firewalls, and SANs.

  • Coordinates on-site resources to support installation of new hardware or software releases. Some repairs and maintenance may require travel to customer sites.

  • Prepares regular security and operational reports for delivery to the customer in support of NIST 800-53 auditing.

  • Installs and manages SIEM monitoring agents and maintains STIG compliance.

  • Interacts with the customer directly and communicates concerns to Leidos project management and technical team members.

BASIC REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience or specialized training) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline

  • Minimum of three years hands-on experience with web-based server systems, Linux or other Unix operating systems, virtualization, and dealing with network connectivity and troubleshooting.

  • Expertise in VMWare and RHEL administration, including system hardening, performance tuning, and automation

  • Experience with creating process, procedures, and documentation relating to data center management, disaster recovery, and off-site backup storage and retrieval.

  • Experience in large, enterprise-level systems deployments and data center operations environments.

  • Experience with NIST 800-53 security requirements, managing STIG settings, interacting with various vulnerability scanning tools, and complying with audit activities related to regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.  Ability to work independently as a self-starter, and within a team environment.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Azure and/or AWS cloud administration experience a plus

  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence tools.

  • Experience administrating/troubleshooting Apache Tomcat, JBoss and SMTP a plus.

  • Experience with network/firewall configuration and IP setup a plus.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a deeply technical engineer who lives and breathes AI infrastructure - someone who can build, deploy, and scale production LLM systems from bare metal to browser. This is not a prompt-engineering role.
