Description

Leidos is seeking an experienced System Administrator to support autonomous maritime projects’ hardware stacks by managing and maintaining Linux-based systems in an on-premises system integration lab (SIL) in Arlington, VA. The System Administrator will be joining an existing team which has already successfully delivered for our customers and plan to continue their reputation of excellence. The System Administrator will focus on system configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the security and integrity of Linux servers and workstations with little supervision. The team’s focus is on software and supporting hardware, including integration with hardware and sensors on multiple vessels. The system administrator will work closely with cross-functional teams to support system deployments, software updates, and operational readiness, ensuring that all systems meet security, performance, and availability requirements.

This position is on-site in support of the system integration lab (SIL) in Arlington, VA.  After hours support may be required to keep the lab functioning (if needed).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of our servers, networks, and system integration laboratories.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Manage system patches, upgrades, and security hardening in compliance with DoD policies.
  • Provide support for system backups, disaster recovery, and data integrity.
  • Configure and maintain network services including routing, firewalls, DNS, and VLANS.
  • Assist in managing system access, user accounts, and security configurations.
  • Collaborate with teams to support software deployments and integration.
  • Create and maintain documentation pertaining to system operating procedures.
  • Participate in incident response and resolve issues related to system performance, security, and availability.

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizen with an active SECRET clearance.
  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 – 6 years of prior relevant experience in being a System Administrator (or experience in a similar field)
  • Bachelor’s degree in fields like Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, etc.
  • Experience with system security, patch management, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, VMware, KVM).
  • Ability to set up new servers as needed and support hardware upgrades.
  • Ability to apply user requirements to the analysis, planning, and design of technology systems.
  • Ability to communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems with speed and efficiency.
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with one or more disciplines:

  • Linux certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, CompTIA Linux+).

Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer. Strong expertise in Kubernetes, including deploying, scaling, and managing containerized applications. Extensive knowledge of Hashicorp Vault and Consul, including managing secrets, access controls, and service discovery. Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as Bash, Python, or Ruby. Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles and experience with tools like Terraform or Ansible. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and associated tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a keen attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Nice to have: Relevant certifications in Kubernetes, Hashicorp products, or related technologies. Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk. Knowledge of container orchestration platforms like Docker Swarm or Red Hat OpenShift. Familiarity with microservices architecture and related technologies such as service meshes (e.g., Istio).
