We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our team in developing unmanned and autonomous ships for the US Government. The candidate will help design, code, and test software as part of a Scrum team in Arlington, VA, and will assist in coaching and mentoring junior and mid-level developers. Joining other senior developers, the candidate will help to guide projects of significant national importance. Our team of over thirty developers supports a variety of projects, making existing ships operate autonomously as well as working to support new ships through development within design, build, and test phases. Our software handles ship automation, autonomous navigation, sensor processing, and communications. The team also develops simulations to be used for verification and software testing.

Contributing to design and development of advanced systems as a part of multi-disciplinary teams. These teams are made up of other software team members and subject matter experts from the areas of systems engineering, hardware, firmware, RF front end design, and signal processing.
Designing, implementing, and testing object-oriented applications in Python/MATLAB
Designing, implementing, and testing software to configure and control RF hardware devices
Integrating low-level software with a user-facing GUI
Developing Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) tests to validate low-level software APIs
Designing and implementing test framework for implementing HITL tests and deploying applications in HITL test environments
Documentation of the developed test software and embedded systems
Clearly communicating technical details of test software to internal and external engineers

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Trouble shoot, install, inspect, repair and perform preventative maintenance on electronic/electrical equipment and circuits, NC/CNC equipment and hydraulic power units to assure proper function and reliability. Must have formal training or equivalent experience in electronics and be able to identify circuitry malfunctions down to component level. Must be able to read and interpret circuit-wiring diagrams and be proficient in the use of volt OHM meter, signal generator and oscilloscope. May work in close conjunction with production engineers and provide technical assistance in design and modification of automated production equipment. May also trouble shoot, install, inspect, repair and perform preventative maintenance on mechanical components of machinery and equipment.
QUALIFYING PERIOD: Thirty (30) working days. On request of the company or the union and by mutual consent of both, this period may be extended for an additional thirty (30) days or shortened to less than thirty (30) days if a man is obviously unable to perform the work as required.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: Complete range of precision measuring instruments and tools necessary to carry out primary function. Employee should furnish the following tools: Electrician’s tool belt and pouch, wire cutters and strippers, verniers, complete set of sockets and ratchets - 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive, complete set of open end and box end wrenches from 1/4" to 1", complete set of screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, and pliers.
