Lockheed Martin is seeking a Sr. Radar Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of advanced radar solutions that support critical defense and aerospace missions. As part of the Engineering & Design organization, you will serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert, driving end-to-end radar system development from concept through deployment and lifecycle support. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across RF engineering, signal processing, software, hardware, and test to architect sophisticated radar systems that meet stringent performance, reliability, and mission requirements. In this senior role, you will own key elements of radar system architecture, requirements definition, and system-level trades, translating customer needs and mission objectives into clear technical specifications and design baselines. You will develop and analyze radar concepts of operation, detection and tracking algorithms, waveform designs, and sensor resource management approaches, using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink to model, simulate, and optimize system performance under realistic operating conditions and threat environments. You will guide the decomposition and allocation of requirements to subsystems, support Model-Based Systems Engineering approaches where applicable, and ensure design consistency and traceability throughout the product lifecycle. You will be a central contributor to integration and test activities, planning and executing laboratory, field, and hardware-in-the-loop evaluations to verify that radar systems meet functional and performance expectations. This includes developing test plans, defining test configurations, analyzing data to assess detection, tracking, and classification performance, and troubleshooting system-level issues that arise during integration with platforms and other sensors. You will also contribute to failure analysis, risk assessments, and reliability and maintainability evaluations, ensuring that the radar solution is robust, supportable, and ready for operational use. As a senior technical professional, you will provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers, fostering a collaborative environment consistent with Lockheed Martin’s culture of integrity, innovation, inclusivity, and teamwork. You will participate in technical reviews, lead design and peer-review sessions, and present complex technical material to internal leadership, external customers, and government stakeholders in a clear, concise manner. Your work will help shape technology roadmaps, inform research and development investments, and influence capture strategies for new radar and sensor opportunities. You will also support proposal and new business activities by contributing to system concepts, technical volumes, estimates, and risk assessments for advanced radar and multi-sensor solutions. Close interaction with program management, engineering leadership, and operations teams will be essential to balance technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk. Throughout your work, you will adhere to established engineering processes and industry standards, while still seeking innovative approaches to improve capability, efficiency, and mission effectiveness. This role is well-suited for an experienced radar systems engineer with a strong background in RF systems, signal processing, and systems engineering within the defense and aerospace domain. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field is required, and an advanced degree is highly desirable. Experience with radar system design, performance modeling, sensor fusion concepts, and integration on airborne, naval, or ground platforms is expected, along with a solid understanding of electromagnetics, antenna theory, and target/ clutter environments. Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, requirements management environments like DOORS, and Model-Based Systems Engineering frameworks is beneficial. Lockheed Martin focuses on the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, and offers a wide range of career opportunities in engineering, technology, and business. In this Sr. Radar Systems Engineer role, you will contribute directly to mission-critical capabilities that protect national security while working in a culture that values ethical behavior, innovation, inclusion, and teamwork. The work environment typically includes a combination of on-site laboratory and integration activities with the flexibility for some remote design, analysis, and documentation tasks, depending on program needs. You will have opportunities for professional growth, cross-functional collaboration, and involvement in cutting-edge radar and sensor technologies that define the future of defense and aerospace systems.
