Analyze electromagnetic coupling and potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems on submarine systems, EMC testing, determination of EMC test requirements for system procurement specifications, and shipboard system testing/troubleshooting.
Develop and implement Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) requirements and evaluate potentially damaged equipment, and deckplate support for ESD issues/concerns that arise.
Using whole-ship analysis and modeling, research of sensor systems, and supporting development of systems and methods that reduce Underwater Electromagnetics (UEM) signature.
Conduct research, development, test, and integration of custom embedded systems and special communications capabilities.
Contribute to the development of rapid engineering solutions to emergent non-conventional threats, specializing in turning high-level requirements into engineering designs that integrate microelectronics with novel fabrication techniques.
Complete the design and development of electrical circuits, with minimal oversight and guidance.
Perform analog/digital circuit design, embedded microcontroller design, and compact antenna design and integration.
Perform modeling of circuits, schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit assembly / fabrication techniques.
Develop coding to enable electronic designs.
Present technical status and decisions during design reviews.
Support integration and testing of developed products to ensure reliable functionality.
Participate and lead developmental and verification testing, including extensive electromagnetic and environmental testing to enable rapid response to emergent Navy and national requirements.
Work with Project Lead(s) to analyze and refine requirements, perform alternative solutions by research and investigation, and identify technical risks.
Develop documentation of design solutions and adhere to established configuration management processes
Support Preliminary Design Reviews, and Critical Design Reviews; EMC analyses (analytical and numerical), E3 Test Readiness Reviews and witness E3 tests.
Support design engineers with consultation and review of electronic circuitry, bonding, grounding and cable designs for EMC compliance.
Support projects in new modeling and simulation techniques for design and testing hardware.
Support design engineers in bench top lab EMI assessments/Engineering Evaluations.
Develop correlation equations to estimate pass/fail criteria in onsite EMI chambers.
Be able to look at programs from a system perspective with respect to EMC/EMI areas early in a project. This may include Risk Analysis and recommendations for design changes.
Educate personnel via Training, Team Talks, e-mail reminders, or through the use of online training to prevent future spillages and recommend policy or procedural changes when needed.
An active or current DoD Secret clearance.
Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field.An Associate’s Degree and 2 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
8 years of related/similar experience in electromagnetic/electrical.
Sound experience with space, military or commercial EMI/EMC design, test planning, execution and mitigation.
Sound knowledge of and experience in EMI/EMC compliance design and testing per MIL-STD-461 standards for system level and sub-system (box) level electrical/electronic systems.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team consisting of systems engineers, electrical and electronics engineers, acquisition professionals, and logistics and sustainment professionals to achieve program outcomes.
General knowledge of and basic hands-on experience with of all associated EMI/EMC laboratory test equipment including: Spectrum Analyzers, Radiofrequency (RF) Amplifiers, Signal Generators, EMI Receivers, Antennas, Directional Couplers, and Power Meters.
An understanding of and ability to specify electronic system test hardware such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analyzers, function generators, electronic load banks, power supplies, power analyzers, network components etc.
